Research results on landscape and energy transition published

The landscape should play a greater role in the planning and approval of wind energy, photovoltaic and biomass plants as well as pumped storage power plants in the future.

The expansion of renewable energies is rapidly and increasingly changing our landscapes. However, aspects of landscape aesthetics are hardly taken into account in the relevant planning and approval procedures. Yet, in the opinion of a large part of the population, their consideration is very important. Landscape aesthetics should therefore play a greater role in the planning and approval of wind energy, photovoltaic and biomass plants as well as pumped storage power plants in the future, and at the same time citizens should be more involved in planning and decision-making processes. This is the conclusion of the research project "Landscape and energy transition" funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) with funds from the Federal Ministry for the Environment.
