In focus: onshore and offshore wind energy, grid expansion and nature conservation
The legislation introduced in recent years to accelerate the transition has, amongst other things, fundamentally changed the framework conditions for the expansion of renewable energy and the grid infrastructure. A number of legislative changes (including the BNatSchG, WindBG, WindSeeG and RED III) have simplified planning and authorisation procedures, introduced new deadlines and standards, and, in some cases, revised nature conservation requirements.
The aim of this panel discussion is to assess the legislation designed to accelerate the development of onshore and offshore wind energy, as well as grid expansion, from a nature conservation perspective, and to examine the current status and the effects of its implementation at the planning permission stage. In discussions between representatives from the fields of nature conservation and law enforcement, existing approaches and experiences are brought together; the actual impact on speeding is discussed; and constructive approaches to the practical implementation of the regulations from a nature conservation perspective are explored
