BfN expert discussion: How to reach nature- and landscape-compatible area (targets) for wind energy

22 November 2021, 18.00-20.00h, livestream online (in German only)

The availability of land is becoming a central factor in the energy transition. Nationwide land use targets for the expansion of wind energy are being formulated from various directions. On the ground, these expansion targets come up against a large number of existing land uses as well as areas for nature conservation and landscape protection.

The following questions arise, particularly with regard to the expansion of wind energy use and the areas required for this: How can the obstacle of land availability (at federal level) be countered? How can the often mentioned target of 2 % of the federal territory to be designated for wind energy be implemented in a way that is compatible with nature and the landscape? Should the federal government set binding expansion targets or area targets for the Länder? How can nature conservation concerns be adequately taken into account when setting expansion targets or area quotas?

These questions will be discussed from different perspectives at a BfN online-expert disussion on 22 November 2021.
