Insects and wind power? BfN fact paper published

According to current research, BfN does not consider wind power to be one of the main causes of the global decline in insects. A fact paper now published refers to model calculations by DLR.

In connection with the current debate on insect decline, DLR's Institute of Technical Thermodynamics has published the results of a study that examined possible interactions between flying insects and wind farms based on model calculations.

To place these results in the current research context, BfN has now published a fact paper. In it, the BfN makes it clear that against the background of the decline in insects that has been documented worldwide and in Germany for several decades, the main causes have been researched in many cases and collisions with wind turbines, for example, are not counted among them. Therefore, these are not the focus of BfN's research activities.
