ProBat 6.1 for the calculation of bat-friendly operation at wind turbines is online

The currently most widely used method for avoiding bat collisions at wind turbines has been comprehensively updated. It is available free of charge as version ProBat 6.1.

In addition to bug fixes, various user functions have been improved. The new version also offers a habitat-specific characterisation of bat activity, taking into account phenological differences and the proportion of the rough-skinned bat in the species spectrum.

The calculation of collision risk and plant operation is now based on a more differentiated and thus more effective weighting of the plant-specific activity level, taking into account seasonal differences in activity. If sites with high bat activity are avoided, the economic loss of revenue can be reduced compared to the previous versions.

ProBat 6.1 corresponds to the current state of science and enables the calculation of practical operational algorithms to reduce the number of bat collisions. Earlier versions of the software should generally no longer be used.

The updates were funded by the BfN.
