ProBat released updated version 7.0

The software tool ProBat calculates bat-friendly cut-in wind speeds for wind turbines (WT). This operational management minimises the killing risk for bats and allows for a more efficient operation of the turbines compared to blanket cut-in or cut-off specifications.

 

The new version 7.0 offers authorities and wind farm operators the possibility to check the correct use of the software and the compliance of the wind turbine operation with the calculated cut-in wind speeds. Furthermore, additional natural regions near the coast as well as in southern Germany have been integrated into the software's calculation basis. Also new: Additional parameters such as temperature and precipitation can be more easily integrated into the calculation of bat-friendly WT-operation with ProBat 7.0. The update of ProBat was carried out as part of a research project of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) with funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

Die neue Version 7.0 bietet Behörden und Windparkbetreibern die Möglichkeit, die korrekte Verwendung der Software und die Übereinstimmung des Anlagenbetriebs mit den berechneten Einschaltwindgeschwindigkeiten zu überprüfen. Darüber hinaus wurden weitere Naturregionen in Küstennähe sowie in Süddeutschland in die Berechnungsgrundlagen der Software integriert. Ebenfalls neu: Zusätzliche Parameter wie Temperatur und Niederschlag können mit ProBat 7.0 einfacher in die Berechnung eines fledermausfreundlichen Betriebes der Windkraftanlage integriert werden. Die Aktualisierung von ProBat erfolgte im Rahmen eines Forschungsvorhabens des Bundesamtes für Naturschutz (BfN) mit Mitteln des Bundesministeriums für Umwelt, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit (BMU).

Research by the BfN always has a practical application and generates scientific results for advising government i.e. supplies a basis for decision-making for the preparation, implementation, monitoring and further development of nature conservation measures and the Federal Government's nature conservation policy.
