BMUV Departmental Research Plan 2023

The new departmental research plan of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) for 2023 was published in November 2022.

Ten projects are listed in the research field accompanying nature conservation research on the energy transition. The planned projects will be realised within the framework of the available budget funds. The inclusion of a project in the research plan does not therefore mean that it will be awarded.

List of projects:

  • FKZ 3523 86 0100: Assessment of the impact of energy storage technologies on nature conservation and landscape protection
  • FKZ 3523 86 0200: Nature conservation-specific nationwide forest potential map for upper level planning
  • FKZ 3523 86 0500: Assessment of the consequences of the expansion of solar energy on agricultural land from an ature conservation perspective and for landscape management
  • FKZ 3523 86 0800: Green roof/façade systems in combination with solar energy, what advantages for nature conservation?
  • FKZ 3523 86 0900: Development of a remote sensing tool for the survey and nature conservation assessment of solar installations
  • FKZ 3523 86 1000: Further development of nature conservation criteria for solar energy
  • FKZ 3523 86 1100: Coordination of technical method standards for the nature conservation and environmental assessment of underground cable projects in federal planning: improving the speed of the procedure, planning and legal certainty and the acceptance of the results
  • FKZ 3523 86 1300: Development of nature conservation criteria and application cases for floating foundation technologies for offshore photovoltaic systems
  • FKZ 3523 86 1600: Process monitoring for wind energy and species protection (project was awarded)

In principle, the projects are awarded in a competitive procedure. For this purpose, the projects are put out to public tender individually during the course of the year (as a rule) or a public call for tenders is held.

In individual cases, the respective awarding authorities may also conduct an expression of interest procedure to determine whether applicants have a vested interest in certain projects. The projects in question will be announced on the respective websites of the authorities, if applicable.
