Promoting acceptance for renewable energies - brochure presents current research results

How can the public's acceptance of the expansion of renewable energies be promoted? This is the topic of a brochure presented at BfN on 27 November. In an easily understandable form and aimed at a broad public, it provides recommendations for action, arguments and regional illustrative examples that were developed in the research project "Accept - EE: Acceptance-promoting factors of renewable energies".

The aim of the project "Accept - EE: Acceptance-promoting factors of renewable energies" is to present synergies between nature conservation and the use of renewable energies and to promote the acceptance of an expansion that is compatible with nature. The focus is on the question of whether an expansion that is compatible with nature and the environment can lead to a higher acceptance of renewable energies.

Among other things, a questionnaire was created for local residents and experts, and a survey campaign was carried out in three study regions. The survey results confirm a high personal relevance of nature, landscape and climate protection in all regions, but these are not brought into any recognisable connection with the evaluation of local energy plants. Synergies between renewable energies and nature conservation concerns are hardly perceived by the respondents. The results have shown that it is important for residents to make the synergies between nature conservation and the use of renewable energies more visible and that complex approval processes and compensation measures must be more transparent for citizens.

Based on this, target group-specific communication strategies and recommendations for action to increase acceptance of the nature-friendly expansion of renewable energies were developed. These results are summarised in this brochure. It contains local experiences with renewable energies - both positive and negative - and provides verifiable knowledge as well as further information on guidelines and support services for actors in the fields of planning and nature conservation. Entitled "Naturverträgliche Energiewende - Akzeptanz und Erfahrungen vor Ort" (nature friendly energy transition - acceptance and local experience), the brochure is aimed at citizens, project developers, representatives of citizens' initiatives and nature and environmental protection associations.
