Call for tender: R&D project "Effects of new generation wind turbines on birds and bats"

How do new generation wind turbines affect birds and bats? The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation is currently inviting tenders for a research project on this topic. Further calls for tender in this thematic area will be issued shortly.

The call for tender is entitled "Assessment of impacts of new generation wind turbines on birds and bats". In addition to the sensitivity of the species/species groups and the turbine location, the hub height and rotor diameter also play a role in assessing the collision risk. The research project should therefore address the conflict potential of different turbine configurations, also with regard to the available avoidance measures. The starting point for the assessment is the questions of whether the existing regulations and recommendations in the Länder-guidelines on the consideration of special species protection according to § 44 para. 1 no. 1 BNatSchG can be transferred to the new generation of wind turbines and what knowledge deficits exist.

An essential component will also be the exchange with experts from science and practice with the aim of discussing the main conflict areas and possible solutions. Finally, the next step will be to work out the need for further action (research concept) for one plant constellation.

The tender documents can be downloaded here.

Further calls for tenders coming soon

In the course of the year, further calls for tenders are expected from the BfN priority area "Nature Conservation and Renewable Energies". It is therefore recommended that you regularly visit the relevant award portals.
