Expert workshop on ecological criteria for solar parks

From 25 to 27 April 2022, the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) held a workshop with 23 experts on the topic of "Development of ecological (minimum) criteria for the construction of solar parks" at the International Academy for Nature Conservation Isle of Vilm (INA).

 

In addition to this central topic of criteria and measures for the design of installations in terms of nature and species conservation, questions of site selection were also the subject of discussion.

As a result of the workshop, a need for action was identified to support municipalities and decision-makers in the design of solar plants, especially in view of the expected new regulations of the EEG. BfN will continue to work on this issue and on involving the groups involved.

How can the expansion in renewable energies be designed in harmony with nature? The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) is providing expert scientific advice on this question to the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (Bundesumweltministerium, BMUB). Research by the BfN always has a practical application and generates scientific results for advising government i.e. supplies a basis for decision-making for the preparation, implementation, monitoring and further development of nature conservation measures and the Federal Government's nature conservation policy.
