The NatForWINSENT R&D project is dedicated to developing and testing new technologies for wildlife research on birds and bats at onshore wind turbines at the WINSENT wind energy test site in southern Germany, located in Baden-Württemberg. The focus is on the (further) development and testing of stereo thermal imaging, camera-based bird collision detection, the monitoring of insect populations, the comparison and validation of various monitoring and shutdown systems, and the conduct of experiments to validate mitigation measures. The technologies are being tested at the two research wind turbines at the WINSENT South German Wind Energy Test Field in Baden-Württemberg.
