The discussion focused on the assessment approaches developed in the projects for the nationwide determination of land potential for wind energy use, with special consideration of nature and landscape concerns. In their methodological approach, the projects differ from each other in that the concerns of nature and landscape are represented in the "RE100 in practice" project by spatial resistances and in the "Renewable Energy: Regional simulation game" project by means of conflict risks.
In the first part of the workshop, the two methodological approaches - "RE100 in practice" by Prof. Dr. Christina von Haaren, Dr. Julia Wiehe and Dr. Julia Thiele and "Renewable Energy: Regional simulation game" by Dr. Wolfgang Peters, Miron Thylmann and Prof. Dr. Boris Stemmer - were presented and discussed with the participants. This was followed by an in-depth exchange on the assessment of biotic and abiotic nature conservation concerns and on the assessment of landscape protection concerns in two working groups. The discussions focused primarily on the complex interrelationships between land use objectives, planning law and regional planning practice.
The workshop was aimed specifically at research participants of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation in the thematic focus of nature conservation and renewable energies, as well as actors who deal with the land requirements of the energy transition in the context of their work.
