Project Duration: 01.06.2024 – 30.05.2026

The EEMonRequest research project is based on the EE-Monitor web application and is its further development. The aim is to take account of the accelerated expansion of renewable energies by providing data-based answers to current questions on the environmental compatibility of the energy transition and interpreting them by a panel of experts. This information is then visualised and made accessible.

Questions

  • Are the conflicts between the expansion of renewable energies and nature conservation depicted in the RE Monitor web application complete and still relevant?
  • Which research questions do experts currently consider relevant and urgent?
  • How can experts' opinions on newly acquired data be incorporated and integrated into the visualisation of the results?
  • How can data updates and integrations into the EE-Monitor web application be simplified and automated?

Methods

As part of this research project, the focus is on identifying current issues relating to the environmental compatibility of the energy transition in the electricity sector. In close cooperation with the project-accompanying working group (PAG), these questions will be answered primarily with the help of the existing data infrastructure of the EE-Monitor and a new digital communication format will be integrated into the EE-Monitor web application. In addition, existing content is to be updated and new content added, and further automation processes in relation to data procurement and generation as well as web application maintenance are to be stimulated and continued. Public relations work tailored to the target group should increase the reach of the web application and increase the number of users and the number of hits on the EE Monitor.

A special feature of the project is that the research questions relating to the environmental compatibility of the energy transition will be prioritised together with the working group accompanying the project and the research group will focus its work and data procurement accordingly. In addition, the new data sets obtained in this way are presented to the experts for evaluation and interpretation and these opinions are part of the published results.

Work packages

Work packages

  1. Project coordination, organisation of the project-accompanying working group (PAG) and public relations work
  2. Conflict review, derivation of questions and weighting and their answers
  3. Integration of new content into the RE Monitor where it is necessary to stabilise it
  4. Development of an optimised process for the regular updating of the EE Monitor and automation of data updating
